Involvement in clubs and organizations can be a fun part of your high school experience and an important component in the college admission process. One of the best ways to make you stand out, while supporting a great cause, is through community service activities. To help you along, here are a few tips to guide you in making your selection.
Use Your Time Wisely
Start looking into things you’d be interested in early. Your freshman year of high school would be the perfect time to start. If you’re currently midway through your high school career, it’s not too late! Do your research prior to the next school year; find out as much information as you can to get going.
Pick Something You Would Enjoy doing
Nothing is worse than committing to a task that will have you cringing at the thought of doing it. Researching local community centers, clubs and organizations is a great place to find ideas. If you can’t find an existing organization that has what you like, you have the freedom to create your own. Whether it be teaching a group how to roller skate or starting a book club, you can do it!
Stick With It
Once you’ve made your selection, you’ll want to see the entire process through. It is not only ideal that you participate, but that you can commit for an extended amount of time. Doing so will exemplify your dedication to the task and show diligence and consistency in your participation.
Remember, community service is about giving your time to help someone else in need. So find something you enjoy as soon as you can and get going with giving!
