The new school year is fast approaching, if not, has already started for many of you. I’m sure that children of every age, as well as me in my twenties, would be excited to purchase new school supplies. There are others less fortunate whose parents cannot afford to make those oh-so-needed purchases. Cram Crew was able to lend a helping hand to some children in the local community.
On August 12th Fernanda and I handed out 90 backpacks with essential school supplies to children in need at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Each backpack contained a notebook, composition book, and folders along with a pencil box of goodies, glue, a ruler and water bottle.
There were lots of children exiting the church as we handed out backpacks, but one in particular sparked a moment of joy for me. She looked to be only about 5 years old. She was too shy to say what color backpack she wanted, so someone else picked for her. She took a seat on the bench next to the table we had set up and stared happily at the backpack not even knowing there were things inside. I bent down and asked her what school she would be going to and told her that she could open the backpack to find more goodies. She was so elated to find her pink pencil box with matching scissors that she looked at me with nothing but excitement in her precious brown eyes.
I felt good inside knowing these parents could rest their heads and not worry about how they would purchase school supplies for their children. Knowing that I contributed to making their day a little brighter was of great reward. Everyone was so grateful for the contribution made on behalf of Cram Crew and our clients. I thoroughly enjoyed coordinating this event and look forward to the next one!
