Get That Money, Honey

College is expensive (tell us something we don’t know), and I seemed to have overlooked some handy dandy resources in my high school days that could have helped cut the costs of my four and half year expenditure. To be sure that you do not make the same mistake, I have drawn up a list of wacky money to be had. (PS, be sure to thoroughly research these or other scholarship opportunities before applying or accepting any money):

  • Stuck at Prom Duck brand Duct Tape College Scholarship Contest: make your prom tux and dress out of duct tape
  • Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest: for students who are good at calling ducks
  • Starfleet Academy Scholarship: for young members of the Star Trek fan club
  • American Nudists Research Library Scholarship: for high school seniors who have had at least three years membership in a nudist organization
  • JIF Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest: $25,000 for making a crazy sandwich
  • Oh, the Places You’ll Go! College Scholarship: $10,000 for writing a one-page letter to someone who needs inspiration in their life
  • Michigan Llama Association Scholarship: for high school seniors who are members or children of members of MLA
  • Sheep Heritage Foundation Memorial Scholarship: for graduate students doing sheep or wool related research
  • Gertrude J. Deppen Scholarship: for students who lead a vice-free lifestyle and have an aversion to sports
  • National Marbles Tournament Scholarship: for students who are good at shooting marbles
  • The US Bowling Congress: offers several scholarships to high school and amateur bowlers
  • Create a Greeting Card Scholarship Contest: $10,000 for designing the front of a greeting card
  • American Fire Sprinkler Association: $20,000 for reading an article and taking a ten question, multiple choice test over it
  • The Calm-a-Sutra of Tea Scholarship Competition: $20,000 for creating a 1-2 minute internet video of yourself drinking tea in an unusual scenario
  • Carnegie Melon University Bagpipe Scholarship: need-based, for those students pursuing a degree in bagpipe studies
  • National Rifle Association: offers several scholarships to junior members of the NRA
  • Patrick Kerr Skateboarding Scholarship: write an essay about skateboarding’s affect on your life
  • American Accordion Musicological Society Scholarship: for students who play the squeezebox
